MINUTEMEN INITIATIVE
WTX DESERT UNIT

Pursuant to the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, Minutemen Initiative is sworn to preserve the life, liberty, and property of all law-abiding citizens through the preparation, training, and support of a lawful citizens' group outside the jurisdiction of government. To aid in the defense of liberty, the un-organized Militia shall train citizens to uphold our natural and inalienable rights and defend the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Texas.
Come see how you can be apart of an ever-growing organization dedicated to the training and preparation necessary to ensure the safety and security of our families, our local communities, and our state should the need ever arise for us to take action.

WELCOME
We appreciate your interest in learning about our unit and organization. Let me first say that we are not your average patriot group, gun club, or militia. Our unit is comprised of individual Minutemen, each of whom has made the personal choice to elevate their training, ability, standards, and commitment to a higher level than most. Our members participate at every level within the company and attendance to events and functions is considered mandatory without good cause for absence. We do not treat this as a hobby or an occasional weekend of hanging with the boys so to speak. We are objective and goal oriented and well-structured based upon our unit standard operating procedures. We always like to clarify that point right up front with anyone considering joining us.
Now, with that said, we do have a great time at every event we hold and the feeling of belonging to a "brotherhood" is very much present.
Our recruitment process has changed a little in the preceding months. We now hold monthly recruitment and evaluation days at our secondary training location just west of Odessa, TX. These will always be on a Saturday and usually last from 4 to 6 hours. These events give us a chance to meet with potential recruits and get to know them a little first hand in a laid back and fun environment. It also gives recruits the opportunity to meet patched members of the unit, talk with leadership members, and ask any and all questions they may have regarding our unit and its functionality. We also have courses and drills set up for individual evaluation and observation on some of the fundamentals and maneuvers that we employ as a unit.
No prior experience of any kind is required, and the gear requirements are at a minimum for new recruits. So come as you are, with what gear you have and we can help you build from there.
What we do is not for everyone. It requires a patriotic passion, self-motivation, and a realization that the skills and training we acquire and hone are invaluable, should the future of our local communities ever need them.
Attendance at a scheduled recruitment day at our secondary training site, is required before a recruit is allowed to attend a full scale Field Training Exercise at our main Training Facility location. The application to join will now be presented at the end of the recruiting event, instead of before attendance to a recruiting event.
Recruits that attend a recruiting event and still wish to proceed with the process of joining our unit will be invited to the next FTX at our home facility. After a recruit has attended 3 consecutive months of FTX events and acquired the minimum uniform and items on the list provided, they will become eligible to be formally patched into the unit as a full fledged member with voting rights and other advantages.

PATCHED UNIT MEMBERS THAT VOLUNTARILY & SATISFACTORILY COMPLETE EACH OF THE TWO COURSES WILL BE GIVEN SHOULDER QUALIFICATION SKILL TABS, AND BE ALLOWED TO WEAR THEM PROUDLY ON THEIR UNIFORMS.
The 1st qualification event is known as our Scorpion Course.
This course will test members firearm safety, weapon manipulation fundamentals, and shooting skills, as well as their ability to properly move through live fire scenarios utilizing the team level tactics we employ. Members will also be tested in the areas of communications knowledge and combat trauma/1st aid skills.
THIS COURSE LASTS 6 HOURS & IS A LIVE FIRE TRAINING.

The 2nd qualification event is known as our Reaper Course.
Members will be required to qualify on the Scorpion Course before they can attempt the Reaper Course. This course is not for the faint of heart, and will test a members physical endurance, teamwork ability, and the full spectrum of tactical skills we employ. During the course, 2 members will be bombarded with intense physical tasks, live fire shooting courses, team level infil/exfil tactics, rural ambush tactics, survival skills, and will be expected to adapt and overcome obstacles using teamwork & the skills they have learned. On top of the physical and mental stress of completing the course tasks, the two participants will also be continually "hunted" by the rest of the unit with the use of simulated airsoft rifles and all terrain vehicles, and have to avoid being killed or discovered, while operating over a span of almost 400 acres in total darkness overnight.
THIS COURSE LASTS 16 HOURS STRAIGHT & IS COMBINATION OF LIVE FIRE TRAINING & SIMULATED TRAINING.

WHO WE ARE
Our Roots
The Minutemen played a crucial role not only in the Revolutionary War, but in earlier conflicts. Although the terms militia and minutemen are sometimes used interchangeably today, in the 18th century there was a decided difference between the two. Militia were men in arms formed to protect their towns from foreign invasion and ravages of war. Minutemen were a small hand-picked elite force which were required to be highly mobile and able to assemble quickly. Minutemen were selected from militia muster rolls by their commanding officers. They were chosen for their enthusiasm, reliability, and physical strength. Usually about one quarter of the militia served as Minutemen, performing additional duties as such. The Minutemen were the first armed militia to arrive or await a battle.
Although today Minutemen are thought of as connected to the Revolutionary War in America, their existence was conceived in Massachusetts during the mid-seventeenth century. As early as 1645, men were selected from the
militia ranks to be dressed with matchlocks or pikes and accoutrements within half an hour of being warned. A journal entry from Samuel Thompson, a Massachusetts militia officer, states, "...but when our men were gone, they sent eleven more at one minute's warning, with 3 days provision..." By the time of the Revolution, Minutemen had been a well-trained force for six generations in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Every town had maintained its 'training band'. The adversity that this region faced — Native-American uprisings, war with France, and potential for local insurrections, social unrest, and rioting — provided ample reason to adhere to a sound militia organization.
By the time of the Revolution, Massachusetts had been training, drilling, and improving their militia for well over a hundred years. In February of 1775 Concord was one of the first towns to comply with the order to create Minutemen companies out of the militia. Of approximately 400 militia from Concord's muster rolls, one hundred would also serve as Minutemen. The Minutemen were still better organized and battle-tested than any other part-time military and were a vital and necessary force, playing a crucial role in not only the Revolutionary War, but in earlier conflicts. Without these "ready in a minute" men, our history may have been written in a very different way.
